One thing about Screenwriting is that like any other field, there is a chance for pressure. It isn’t all wining and dining with kings and queens. So many people who do not do screenwriting has that image of screenwriters automatically. It is not all glamour and making reservations with the best. Almost all of us have at one-point thought about the good life. There is nothing wrong with that, and it is normal. The problem is that we have that pressure because of that mindset about us. The pressure is overwhelming and that is why it is important for us to chase the dream, and not the fame that could come with this field.
When there is fame involved with a field, there is always a problem. Just like any other field that has a promise of money and power, this is no exception. There may be some screenwriters who only want the money. They can’t come up with a reason or story behind why they want to do screenwriting. Those kinds of people are something to watch out for. If you are only in it for the money, and nothing else, then you have already lost. You may succeed and gain something, but at the end of the day, it isn’t your passion. It is just like if you are trapped in a career that you don’t like. If you trap yourself into this, and don’t have the passion, you have lost. It has become an obligation instead of a passion. That is no way to live for anyone.
For screenwriters who are in it for the dream and adventure above all else. They can probably relate to all of this. It is hard to keep going with that pressure. Let go of that pressure. You may have lots of friends like I do that looks at screenwriting that way. You may even know a screenwriter who is in it just for fame and fortune. It is time to let go of the pressure that comes with the field, and just continue to do it, for the love of it all, and not let people ruin the experience because of the pressure.
